Does Character Reference guarantee the same face?
No. It provides visual guidance and can help preserve recognizable traits, but generated details may change. Review each result and adjust the prompt or reference if needed.
Character reference guide
Use a character reference to guide new scenes
A reference image gives Dreamgens visual guidance for a character you want to revisit. It can help carry recognizable traits into another image, while the prompt describes what changes in the new scene. Results are not guaranteed to reproduce every detail exactly.
What a character reference can guide
Use a clear image of one fictional adult character when you want a related look in a different setting, outfit, or composition. Describe the new scene in the prompt rather than relying on the reference to communicate every change. Similarity can vary between results.
Choose a reference that is easy to read
A single subject with a visible face, even lighting, and little obstruction gives the model clearer visual information. Use an image you created or have permission to use. Uploaded character references stay private and are not published to Community.
Plan access before uploading
Free accounts receive five one-time Character Reference trials at zero Gems. Each successful use consumes a trial; failed generations restore it. After the allowance is used, the feature locks unless your plan includes access. Other Free-plan limits still apply.
Frequently asked questions
Are uploaded references public?
No. Uploaded character references remain private. Generations using a Character Reference cannot be published to Community, including when combined with a Pose Reference. Pose-only outputs may be shared when eligible; the uploaded pose reference remains private.
How do the free trials work?
Free accounts receive a one-time allowance of five Character Reference trials at zero Gems. Failed generations restore a trial. Feature access after the allowance depends on the plan; see pricing for current details.
